MINUTES OF
OCTOBER 13 MEETING:
The meeting was called to order promptly at
The registrar reported that we registered 338
girls on time, approximately 100 girls below our goal of a 10% increase over
2004-2005. Since on-time closed, we have
registered additional girls and currently stand at 375 girls, 216 adults.
Nan B reported that all delegates attended the
delegate meeting in September. She also
reported that many of the delegates in attendance were expressing the same
confusion over the Girl Scout Program of today and where it is headed. Any comments or concerns about Girl Scouts
program and policy should be directed to the delegates so they can raise them
at Council. The next delegate meeting
will be in February.
Lois was unavailable to report on FPS, but did
send along samples of the two new products:
double dipped chocolate peanuts and the salsa party mix. Girl orders are due to Lois H October 31.
Pam N reported that registrations for the
Juliette Low Birthday Party are very low.
She presented the games to be played at the Party and displayed the
prizes to be given away. Registration
was extended to Friday, October 21.

Julie C and Jennifer E reported on the
Trim-A-Tree which will include a story/song time, simple craft, and packing
boxes for the homeless. The Library will
have trees available for those troops that want to make ornaments to decorate
the trees. Trim-A-Tree
will take place the second Saturday in December this year. Contact Julie or Jennifer to sign your troop
up for this event.
Reminders of the various service projects were
given: (1) Christhole House – we are looking for NEW
toys, primarily for boys aged 7-14;
(2) Troop 723 is still collecting
socks for Operation Happy Sock; (3) Troop 1183 is collecting new and gently used
stuffed animals; (4) Troop 1331 is collecting receiving blankets, hats &
booties, etc to be used for newborn kits for Wishard Hospital. In addition, we are collecting new and gently
used stocking stuffers for the Women’s Prison to use in stockings for less
fortunate students of IPS.

FROM THE
CHAIR:
I’ve recently been told I come across as a bit
gruff; and I know I can be opinionated, abrasive, seemingly insensitive, step
on toes, and hurt feelings. If
I have offended anyone in the Service Unit, I do sincerely apologize. If I have appeared critical of anyone in
particular, it was unintentional.
I’m pretty laid back most of the time, and if ever I feel there is a
problem that needs to be addressed, believe me, it will be done privately. I would appreciate the same courtesy.
The Workplace Profiles, Otto Kroeger with Janet
M. Thuesen, © 1992, says “Much of the words used to describe leadership can,
with no effort, be interpreted as pushy and overbearing when referring to
females. Take charge, commanding, objective, confrontive, gregarious. These are just a few of the descriptors that
men are lauded for, but for which women can be scorned. “ In particular, this paragraph applies to the
ENTJ Myers-Briggs personality type, which
is mine.

I stepped into the role of Service Unit Chairman
this year when I realized no one else was going to. It was something I gave a great deal of
thought to, and did reluctantly. I had
hoped to show that the Chairman doesn’t have to be all things to all
people. The Service Team and Committees
have their functions, leaving the Chairman to simply be a director. NOW is the time you should be considering
whether this is the position for you. In
January/February, Eunice will be looking for a replacement for the Chairman
position, and I hope one of you will cheerfully volunteer.
I’ve been an active member of this Service Unit
for nearly 20 years. I no longer have a child in the program or the school
system, and I am ready for some time off.
My grandson is in Kindergarten this year and talking about Cub
Scouts. My granddaughter will be in
school in a few years; and I’m sure at that time, I’ll start the whole Girl
Scout process over with a different Service Unit. My daughter, Pam, is working with a
graduating troop and will be moving to another Service Unit next year. My ties to

I’ll need that third part of the Girl Scout Canisters from the FPS program!
