GIRL SCOUT BOOKS NOW AVAILABLE AT THE GREENWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY
Woodland Service Unit elected at the beginning of this year to donate two sets of handbooks and Studio 2B books to the Library for use by the girls, troop leaders, etc. We purchased two sets of books - one for checking out, and one for reference only. The books were:
Brownie Girl Scouts Handbook
Brownie Girl Scouts Try-Its
Junior Girl Scouts Handbook
Junior Girl Scouts Badge Book
Studio 2B Collection Ages 11-13 Premier Issue
Studio 2B Collection Ages 13-15 Premier Issue
Studio 2B Collection Ages 15-17 Premier Issue
Fifteen of the Studio 2B Focus Books. A list will be provided at the March Service Unit Meeting.
"A new national monument is being unveiled in Washington, D.C., this month, with Juliette Gordon Low being among the Americans whose life work it immortalizes in bronze and granite" (GSUSA Press Release). Juliette is one of only 20 honorees included in the initial unveiling ceremony. Read more about Juliette and this fascinating memorial at the Extra Mile Points of Light Volunteer Pathway website!
The Service Team would like the troops to report on ativities they are doing within the troop, such as field trips they have planned or taken, Council events they participated in, etc. It was also suggested that the SU hear about the events the troop leaders participated in but didn't feel were worth the time, money, and effort (sort of a "lessons learned" for future reference). Since Council likes to have this information also, it sounds like a good idea! To fill out the report online, click here, or pick one up at the next Service Unit meeting and turn it in to Sharon.
Senior Troop 1095 had the opportunity in the summer of 2004 to visit Savannah, GA and the Juliette Gordon Low National Girl Scout Center! To check out the awesome fun they had, click here. They still have some cookbooks to sell, so see Nancy W. or Pam N. if you haven't bought yours yet!
As part of Greenwood Community Schools policy, no child is allowed in any part of the schools without an adult. Thank you so much for understanding and for helping with this! Also, if you have any meetings in any of the school buildings, please be aware that the administration would like the chairs and tables returned to the positions they were found in, the floors swept, the tables wiped, etc. Any violation of either of these policies may cause your meeting location to be denied to your troop. Just something for you to be aware of!
The Council is always eager to learn about what troops are doing for fun, as service projects, badge or patch activities, or anything else you think might be interesting. If you have something you want to share, give it to Eunice at the next SU meeting, or email Laura Foshee at lfoshee@gshcc.org.
Exciting news on the Council level: it was announced at a previous Delegate Meeting that GSHCC will be hosting the National Convention in 2008! Wonderful women and older girls from all over the country will be en forcein Indy. Can you imagine how exciting it will be to see so many Girl Scout uniforms during the week they will be in town? Look forward to more information coming about this great event!

We are always looking for talented people who are willing to help troops
with various projects! For example, if you are good at basket-weaving, or
photography, or love to go camping and actually "rough it", let us know!
We'd like to have a full list of talented people and right now it's completely empty!
